Walmart (WMT) has been sued by 10 Mexican citizens who allege that the retail giant failed to take reasonable efforts to protect its customers during an August 3 shooting at a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas.

In addition to holding the company accountable for not adequately protecting its customers, the plaintiffs in the lawsuit filed in El Paso County Court were “not only pursuing justice for themselves but also safety for the greater public,” according to a statement issued Wednesday by the Mexican foreign ministry.

Eight Mexican citizens were killed and eight others were wounded in El Paso attack. Fourteen Americans also died and another 16 injured in the attack where the alleged shooter reportedly told police he was trying to kill as many Mexicans as possible.
